Saint John of Caselles church Church
from the X-XIIth century that represents the true spirit of the Andorran
Romanic architecture.
Within are kept the remains of a Romanic Christ from the XIIth century.
Behind the altar grating we find a XVIth century altarpiece of great artistic
value where we can find scenes from Saint John’s life, who is the
saint patron of that church.
On the outside, on the west, we can see some examples of the medieval tombstones
of the cemetery that surrounds the church.
Oue High Lady of Meritxell
”Nostra Senyora de Meritxell” is the Saint Matron Mother and
protector of Andorra. Her sanctuary is located on the left margin of the
Valira river, between Canillo and Encamp. Every year is celebrated the
8 of September holiday, that is also the National Day of Andorra. That
day is celebrated a mass in wich all the authorities and the faithful
of Andorra attend. Many of them peregrinate from all other seven parishes
by foot. After the mass, tradition ask for the assistants to kiss the
medal that the Holy Virgin’s wears. The 8 of September is a holyday
when no one works.
Saint Serni church Church
of Romanic origin, rebuild on the XVIIth century. It has the highest bell
tower of the valleys of Andorra (27 metres) and a gothic Christ.
The Cross of Seven Arms Stone
cross from the XVIth century on the road to Prats. It’s at the origin
of a popular legend.
